K. attended 2 trainings with Noah's Wish before being mobilized with the organization during hurricane Katrina. Being one of the assessment team sent to Slidell, LA, K. was on site within 48 hours of the disaster's onset. She and the assessment team helped to set up the NW temporary shelter. She also was asked to organize the medical donations and setup the initial medical "triage" area. Being the only medical personnel on site for the first few days, she became in charge of providing basic assessments and medical care for incoming rescues, as well as fielding medical concerns from other volunteers. During her time there, she also
became responsible for the (almost) nightly transport of all critical care animals to Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge.
